C.B. Macdonald actually coined the term “golf architect” and is considered the father of American golf architecture. With Seth Raynor, he built some of America’s first great courses with Chicago Golf Club, National Golf Links, Shinnecock Hills, Sleepy Hollow, and the original Lido Golf Club. Macdonald won the first-ever U.S. Amateur Championship in 1895 and authored Scotland’s Gift, Golf in 1928.
